Position Overview
The OSP Design Engineer will be responsible for the design and deployment of outside plant fiber infrastructure across various regions of the Domestic United States, including Puerto Rico and the U. S. Virgin Islands. This role requires a professional representation of the company to both internal and external customers, utilities, municipalities, and contractors. The Engineer will collaborate cross-functionally within a matrix organizational structure to meet implementation objectives alongside teams in RF Engineering, Operations, Regulatory Affairs, Finance, Product Development, and Supply Chain Management.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct pre and post-sales activities, including but not limited to:
- Create high-level fiber designs based on desktop evaluations and field reviews.
- Develop analytical cost estimation models using Excel based on preliminary design data.
- Perform right-of-way analysis for proposed fiber installations, identifying necessary utility and permit applications.
- Coordinate with utilities for underground and aerial right-of-way applications, managing the make-ready processes during construction.
- Oversee municipality and state permitting processes for fiber projects.
- Manage contractor qualifications and the bidding process for engineering and construction contracts.
- Supervise various suppliers and vendors throughout engineering and construction, ensuring adherence to budget and schedule.
- Collaborate with multiple internal stakeholders, including project managers, to ensure project completion within budget and timeline.
- Oversee material procurement, receiving, and inventory deployment for project support.
- Handle multiple projects and travel as necessary to project sites across the U. S.
- Enhance and evaluate fiber engineering designs for optimal performance.
- Create and manage fiber splice documentation, including splice diagrams, spider maps, OTDR, and Power Meter readings.
