About the job
About Grassroots Carbon
Grassroots Carbon stands at the forefront of grasslands restoration and soil carbon sequestration, collaborating with landowners to implement and expand regenerative land management practices. These practices not only enhance soil health, but also promote biodiversity and improve water quality. They hold significant potential to mitigate climate change by sequestering substantial amounts of atmospheric CO2 in the soil. Grassroots Carbon proudly collaborates with ranchers across 1.6 million acres in 22 states, implementing methods that restore grasslands, enhance bird habitats, boost soil health, and encourage nature-based soil organic carbon drawdown through healthy soils. With a foundation built on scientific rigor, quality, and transparency, Grassroots Carbon has forged strong partnerships with organizations such as Audubon Conservation Ranching, Texas Agricultural Land Trust, Understand Ag, and Colorado State University's Soil Carbon Solutions Center, while generating high-quality soil carbon drawdown credits for leading corporations like Nestle, Microsoft, Shopify, Marathon Oil, H-E-B, Olipop, and Urban Villages, helping them offset their carbon impact and achieve sustainability goals.
Grassroots Carbon is proud to be a portfolio company of Soilworks Natural Capital.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a proactive AI/ML Ops Engineer to develop and sustain the data infrastructure that powers our carbon measurement, rancher tools, and innovative AI-native applications.
This role will involve collaboration at the intersection of our Data Science and Product teams, transforming experimental models into production systems and building the connectors that facilitate real-time data flows across our platform. This position is vital to achieving our 2026 objectives: delivering AI-native ranch management tools, expanding our Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) capabilities, and enabling third-party hardware integrations that provide actionable intelligence directly to ranchers.
We seek a candidate who thrives on constructing dependable infrastructure, possesses strong opinions about data quality, and can navigate autonomously in a fast-paced environment characterized by ambitious roadmaps and genuinely novel challenges.
Key Responsibilities
Data Pipeline Infrastructure
- Design, construct, and sustain scalable ETL pipelines for soil carbon data, satellite imagery, weather data, and ranch management inputs.
- Transform data science team outputs into reliable, monitored production systems, ensuring the productionization of research models (including process-based and machine learning models).
- Develop and maintain data validation, monitoring, and alerting systems to identify issues before they affect downstream users.
- Oversee data quality and lineage across the platform, ensuring our carbon calculations adhere to the scientific rigor required by our protocols.
