The Role of the Control Engineer
As a Control Engineer within the HAPS initiative, you will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining custom autopilot systems and control algorithms. Your expertise will guide the complex process of transitioning an ultra-lightweight, large wingspan aircraft from takeoff, through atmospheric navigation, to cruising at altitudes exceeding that of commercial jets, and ultimately to landing. This position presents a range of challenges including managing the launch sequence, ensuring structural integrity against adverse weather, executing intricate landing maneuvers, and fulfilling various Earth Observation mission profiles.
The breadth of control system development for unmanned aircraft like HAPS encompasses flight control, navigation, guidance, and mission management. This collaborative role requires working closely with cross-disciplinary teams, spanning structures, avionics, and operations.
