Position OverviewThe Mechanical Engineer I plays a vital role in the mechanical design and operational efficiency of hydro turbine systems. This position is tasked with crafting innovative, cost-effective equipment designs while ensuring adherence to budgetary constraints during the final design phase. The engineer will identify mechanical process shortcomings and spearhead enhancements. Responsibilities include designing and prototyping, utilizing CAD software, and managing project phases in collaboration with Project Managers.Key ResponsibilitiesEmbrace the company’s core values: teamwork, open communication, continuous improvement, and a commitment to delivering customer solutions.Lead the mechanical design and layout of customized hydro turbine systems, integrating generator and turbine functionalities along with associated equipment and civil structures.Conduct classical stress calculations and finite element analyses on crucial turbine components.Prepare and present structural analysis reports to both internal and external stakeholders.Create CAD drawings and bills of materials for all new and rehabilitated components, including fabrications, castings, forgings, and machined parts.Evaluate various design specifications and propose alternative solutions or construction methods.Serve as the technical lead on simpler projects with guidance from senior engineers.Collaborate with experienced engineers on more complex projects.Conduct internal design reviews alongside multi-disciplinary teams.Assist in additional project needs across Project Management, Proposals, Procurement, Operations, and Field Service departments.Work with Operations and Field Service teams to troubleshoot technical issues during equipment manufacturing or installation.Participate in field testing and troubleshooting of turbine installations under the mentorship of experienced engineers.Ensure compliance with ISO Quality Standards throughout the design process.AuthoritiesAuthorize the approval of shop and field non-conformances and their resolutions with insights from seasoned engineers.
