License/Certification: No specific licenses or certifications are required. However, certifications such as Certified Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM) and Project Management Professional (PMP) are preferred. KNOWLEDGE: This role requires observable and measurable attributes and skills necessary to successfully perform essential functions.

About the role

JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Ambulatory Access Operations plays a pivotal role in the ambulatory ecosystem at Stanford Medicine Children's Health (SMCH) and the Pediatric Community Health Alliance (PCHA). Reporting directly to the Vice President of Ambulatory Access and the Vice President of Patient Access Services, this position is responsible for the comprehensive management of ambulatory access operations across all SMCH sites, while also providing vital support to PCHA. This role is essential in ensuring seamless patient access and coordination, engaging all patient touchpoints to establish integrated care. The Director contributes to enterprise-wide strategies focused on operational performance, scalability, innovation, and alignment with digital, clinical, and population health initiatives. This individual will foster collaboration across departments, including operations, IT, finance, clinical divisions, and external partners, to achieve organizational goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Leadership and Strategy: Collaborate with the Associate Chief Medical Officer for Ambulatory Services, nursing leadership, and Stanford School of Medicine to enhance patient access and care coordination.
  • Support and expand community partnerships through strategic initiatives as directed by the Vice President.
  • Actively promote health equity and population health initiatives, nurturing strong relationships with physicians and advanced practice providers.
  • Operations Management: Oversee patient scheduling, surgical scheduling, digital access, referral management, clinical navigation, and policy development.
  • Ensure adherence to standards and service level agreements, striving for optimal patient access and service delivery.
  • Vendor Relations and Team Leadership: Establish and manage strategic relationships with third-party vendors, including call centers and virtual assistants, to enhance patient engagement.
  • Lead and mentor teams to develop into strategic, results-oriented units.
