Job Overview
We are in search of a talented M&P Engineer - Composites to spearhead the testing and allowable development of composite materials for our cutting-edge maritime platforms. In this pivotal role, you will design lightweight, high-performance composite structures tailored for maritime conditions while meeting critical Department of Defense (DoD) performance and survivability standards.
Responsibilities
Lead and support composite material allowables development programs in accordance with CMH-17, FAA, ABS, and other applicable standards.
Define, execute, and analyze test programs to generate A- and B-basis allowables.
Develop and implement specifications for composite fabrics, adhesives, core materials, and related processes.
Provide technical support for composite fabrication, inspection, and process control.
Collaborate with test labs and suppliers to ensure adherence to aerospace quality standards.
Create comprehensive test plans and roadmaps for characterizing new material systems and processes.
Draft material and process specifications that align with industry standards and internal requirements.
Maintain and document material property databases, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Assist with root cause analysis and corrective actions for material and process non-conformances.
Engage in continuous improvement initiatives to inform design-for-cost and design-for-manufacturing strategies.
Work with certification teams to provide technical justification and documentation for material allowables in structural substantiation.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 2 years of experience with aerospace or marine composite materials and processes, preferably in allowables development.
Familiarity with CMH-17, MIL-HDBK-17, and ABS certification requirements, along with other relevant aerospace/marine composite standards.
Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret material test data and results.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
