Qualifications

Required Qualifications:BS, MS, or PhD in Aeronautics Engineering or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of experience with a BS, 3 years with an MS, or 2 years with a PhD in modeling rotorcraft, tiltrotor, or eVTOL aerodynamics using CFD. Deep understanding of fixed-wing and rotorcraft aerodynamics. Solid theoretical foundation in fluid mechanics and CFD. Experience in aerodynamic design and shape optimization techniques. Familiarity with surface parametrization and aerodynamic shape optimization. Proficiency in modeling turbulent flows, boundary layer transitions, and unsteady aerodynamic phenomena. Expertise with steady and unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) simulations. Experience with NASA Overflow CFD software is mandatory. Skilled in 3D surface and volume meshing, specifically using structured overset meshes and/or unstructured tetrahedral/hexahedral meshes. Familiarity with NASA's Chimera grid tools package is preferred. Proficient in 3D CAD modeling, with NX experience being advantageous. Proficient in Python programming, with Fortran coding experience being a plus. Knowledge of software development best practices is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct aerodynamic design and simulations for Archer's eVTOL aircraft utilizing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
  • Perform aerodynamic shape optimizations for various components of Archer vehicles.
  • Develop and uphold high-fidelity models for Archer's eVTOL aircraft.
  • Create high-quality surfaces for Outer Mold Line (OML) definition.
  • Validate CFD simulation results against lower-fidelity simulations, flight test data, and wind tunnel experiments.
  • Assist in the aerodynamic vehicle design process throughout all project phases, from conceptualization to certification.
