About the job

At SpaceX, we believe in an exhilarating future where humanity explores the stars. Our mission is to develop groundbreaking technologies that facilitate this vision, ultimately enabling human life on Mars.

SENIOR ELECTRICAL HARDWARE DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER - SATELLITES (STARLINK)

SpaceX is at the forefront of deploying Starlink, the world's most sophisticated broadband internet system. As the largest satellite constellation in existence, Starlink provides fast and reliable internet access to millions globally. Our approach encompasses the design, construction, testing, and operation of all system components, including thousands of satellites, consumer receivers that connect users within minutes, and the software that integrates everything seamlessly. The potential global impact of Starlink is immense, and as we enhance and expand our constellation, we seek exceptional engineers to contribute to our team.

In your role as an Electrical Design Engineer for Starlink, you will oversee the entire life cycle of the hardware that facilitates connectivity, engaging with electrical, mechanical, thermal analysis, software, and antenna/RF engineering. You will tackle challenges related to high-speed digital communications, analog systems, network integration, power electronics, and RF devices. Your responsibilities will encompass system design and schematic capture, PCB layout oversight, hardware troubleshooting, as well as defining requirements for the underlying silicon and overseeing complete product production and testing. Collaboration is key as you drive successful business outcomes across various subsystems of the satellite, working closely with mechanical and software engineering teams, among others.

Key sub-teams include:

  • Avionics: Responsible for the core avionics systems of Starlink satellites, which control the vehicle, manage kilowatts of power distribution, route high-speed vehicle and user traffic, and enable inter-satellite communication via advanced Space Lasers. The team ensures the design, development, and success of these systems from conception to execution.
  • Payload: This team designs the cutting-edge phased arrays, parabolic antennas, and custom compute + modem electronics that deliver connectivity to our users. They are accountable for the hardware's design, development, and success from concept to execution.

Your specific team assignment will be determined during the interview process based on your technical expertise, experience, and preferences.
