GiveDirectly (GD) is revolutionizing the landscape of international philanthropy by directly delivering cash grants to the most impoverished individuals worldwide. According to the Brookings Institution, eliminating the poverty gap would require $70 billion in cash transfers; however, the aid sector currently allocates $135 billion annually, much of which goes to ineffective interventions. Our mission is to redefine this model, positioning cash transfers as the gold standard for foreign aid, similar to how index funds serve the financial sector, and ultimately accelerating the eradication of extreme poverty.
Since our inception in 2011, GD has raised over $1 billion and has successfully provided cash assistance to more than 1.5 million people across 15 countries.
