About the job

IonQ is at the forefront of quantum computing, striving to develop the most advanced full-stack quantum computer utilizing trapped-ion technology. Our mission is to transcend the boundaries of classical physics and existing supercomputing capabilities to usher in a revolutionary era of computing. Quantum computing holds the promise of significantly enhancing various sectors, including medicine, materials science, finance, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cryptography. We are leading the charge in this technological evolution.

As we approach the scale of quantum computing, our systems will execute certain computations faster and handle larger datasets than the largest supercomputers on the planet. However, these quantum systems will still need to seamlessly integrate with classical computing architectures for comprehensive calculations. Just as your device integrates CPUs and GPUs for effective rendering, the data centers of the future will combine CPUs, GPUs, and QPUs to tackle the world’s most challenging problems.

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineering Manager to guide and expand our Runtime team, responsible for creating and maintaining our hybrid classical-quantum computing environment for clients. In this pivotal role, you will facilitate key customer capabilities, including quantum emulation, pluggable compilers, and performance efficiency, ultimately delivering our fault-tolerant quantum computing layer at scale. You will collaborate closely with our API teams and our comprehensive hybrid computation initiatives.

The ideal candidate will boast experience in leading and contributing to multiple concurrent initiatives, adeptly balancing various activities while focusing on impactful priorities. You will merge technical prowess with strategic business acumen to make informed technology decisions that yield lasting effects. A commitment to simplicity, creativity, and sharp analytical judgment will be crucial. You should enjoy delving into technical subjects and working across diverse business streams, positioning yourself to help us achieve the next milestone in secure quantum computing.
