PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
The Voice and Data Engineer is responsible for ensuring the technical integrity of all Data (WANs, LANs, MANs, and low-speed data), voice (PBX, voicemail, conference bridges, radio networks - PTP, MAS, VHF, & UHF) networks, video conferencing, and problem resolution for IXC, LEC, and CLEC systems. This role requires a high degree of technical expertise across various infrastructure areas. Responsibilities include installation, scheduled maintenance, and troubleshooting of all telecommunications equipment and networks within a designated geographical area. The Engineer will lead various activities and serve as a direct customer interface for IT processes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Install, maintain, and repair network infrastructure, including:
- Local Area Network equipment
- Wide Area Networking equipment and circuits
- Telephone systems (PBX, hybrid key, and non-KSU systems)
- Voice processing and computerized telephone technology
- Microwave radio equipment
- VHF/UHF radio equipment, mobile cellular phones, and paging infrastructure
- Video teleconferencing equipment
- Fiber optic cable systems
- UPS systems and AC/DC systems
- Other electronic equipment as required
- Function as PBX and voicemail administrator
- Collaborate with telephone companies and personnel to install and repair circuits
- Assist in telecommunications capital project coordination
- Ensure compliance with Federal Communications Commission guidelines for microwave and radio systems
- Provide first-level client PC support
- Offer electronic technical support for engineering and other departments
- Assist in the operation and repair of SCADA and electronic measurement systems
- Work with central network personnel to configure routers, hubs, and channel banks
- Build infrastructure cabling systems using fiber and metallic mediums.
