Are you ready to stretch the boundaries of what’s achievable?We are looking for candidates with:Extensive experience in flood forecasting modelling (Flood Modeller). In-depth knowledge of Environment Agency requirements, including the preparation of flood forecasting models compatible with their Incident Management Forecasting Systems. Demonstrable expertise in applying and calibrating hydrological models in flood forecasting (e.g., Muskingum-Cunge, Probability Distribution Model). Exceptional analytical skills, with a background in processing and analyzing hydrometric data, including gauge rating reviews. A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a related discipline. Strong GIS capabilities (QGIS, ArcGIS, and/or MapInfo). Practical experience with scripting languages (Python, Anaconda, Ruby, or similar) is advantageous. You should be self-motivated, able to work independently when necessary, and thrive in a collaborative team environment.

We are seeking a Principal or Associate to join our expanding Water Team. In this pivotal senior technical role, you will lead teams in the execution of real-time flood forecasting projects while contributing to the growth of our services with the Environment Agency and other partners.

Your primary responsibility will focus on flood forecasting, but you will also have the chance to engage in broader hydrology and non-real-time modelling projects.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Generate and evaluate Flood Forecasting Inception Stage Reports, ensuring the quality of existing models and hydrometric data is assessed.
  • Develop, calibrate, and validate flood forecasting models (e.g., PDM, Flood Modeller).
  • Conduct non-real-time modelling and hydrological analysis utilizing tools such as Flood Modeller, ICM, HEC-RAS, MIKE 11, and FEH hydrological methods.
  • Create and review high-quality technical reports to document model constructions and associated uncertainties.
  • Lead and participate in tenders for significant clients.
  • Mentor and guide team members in their professional development.
  • Foster strong relationships with clients and colleagues across various disciplines.
  • Remain informed about relevant legislation and guidelines impacting our services.
  • Employ AECOM’s project management systems to ensure the timely and budget-compliant delivery of high-quality outputs.
