Role Overview:

The Controls and Monitoring Subject Matter Expert (SME) will spearhead the establishment of standards and best practices for Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) within our data centre projects. This position is pivotal in overseeing the design review process during RIBA Stage 3, ensuring adherence to program-wide requirements, local standards, and specifications from hyperscalers. Beyond this stage, the Controls Engineer will assist project teams during various phases, including tender evaluations, development, commissioning, and integration, to deliver secure and scalable control infrastructures. This role also emphasizes knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within controls engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Standards and Governance:

  • Establish and uphold program-wide standards, templates, procedures, and best practices for BMS and EPMS systems.
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations, hyperscaler requirements, and Goodman protocols.
  • Foster innovation and continuous improvement in controls engineering, collaborating closely with the Goodman engineering team to ensure designs are practical, commissionable, and meet both Goodman’s and end-user requirements.

Design Compliance & Quality Assurance:

  • Guarantee the safe and sustainable delivery of projects.
  • Support design managers at both program and project levels in defining the controls and monitoring scope of work for each phase.
  • Engage actively in various data centre and substation projects from concept to detailed design to ensure compliance with Goodman’s standards, as well as international and local regulations.
  • Provide constructive feedback to enhance standards as necessary.
  • Review consultant deliverables for safety, compliance, spatial coordination, constructability, and maintainability.
  • Validate specifications and diagrams for BMS and EPMS systems.
  • Conduct technical evaluations of bids from General Contractors and primary equipment vendors.
