Key Responsibilities:Produce photo-realistic digital matte paintings. Collaborate with the supervision team to refine the aesthetic of a shot or sequence. Coordinate with the production team to establish schedules and technical specifications. Work alongside Shader Developers, Lighting TDs, and Compositors to ensure the delivery of high-quality shots. Engage with the VFX Supervisor to confirm that plates align with the planned concept design. Source and compile your own photographic reference materials. Adhere to schedules and meet deadlines while upholding the highest quality standards. Maintain regular communication with Production and Leads regarding timelines and deliverables. Share techniques, reference materials, and creative ideas with team members. Stay updated on new tools, software, and technologies relevant to the field.

Role overview

The Digital Matte Painter crafts photo-realistic environments, elements, and textures. These assets must blend naturally with live action plates or stand alone as digital matte painting (DMP) plates. Some creations are also used within 3D environments and mapped onto 3D objects.

Key responsibilities

  • Produce photo-realistic digital environments, elements, and textures
  • Integrate digital assets with live action plates or deliver as standalone DMP plates
  • Create digital assets for use in 3D environments and for projection onto 3D objects
  • Work closely with Modelling and Shading departments

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of real-world materials and lighting
  • Basic knowledge of modelling and shading practices
  • Ability to collaborate with other departments
