The Distribution Warehouse Supervisor plays a pivotal role in overseeing daily warehouse operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and precise processes for receiving, put away, picking, packing, shipping, and inventory management across various functional areas. This position manages designated warehouse teams, including Freight, Bulk Storage, and RMA Receiving, ensuring all activities adhere to company standards, safety protocols, and performance metrics. While the primary work location is in Newton, NJ, occasional travel or temporary assignments at other Thorlabs facilities may be necessary.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Operational Oversight: • Ensure all receiving, distribution, and shipping operations comply with Thorlabs' procedures and quality standards. • Conduct regular assessments of workflows, accuracy, and output quality; swiftly resolve any issues. • Allocate labor and modify staffing levels to optimize productivity and meet daily commitments. • Collaborate with Bulk Distribution, Ship Complete, Autostore, and RMA Receiving teams to achieve daily targets. • Identify and implement process improvements to boost efficiency, accuracy, and throughput. • Adapt operational processes based on evolving business needs, volume changes, or technological advancements.
Specialized Functional Responsibilities: Bulk Storage & Large Freight Items: • Supervise the handling and storage of bulk, heavy, or oversized freight items. • Ensure the appropriate equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, crate movers) is utilized for receiving and transporting large materials. • Keep bulk storage locations organized and perform routine cycle counts and inventory accuracy checks. Freight Forwarding & Logistics Coordination: • Manage inbound and outbound freight with third-party carriers and freight forwarders. • Request rate quotes, schedule pickups, arrange shipments, and ensure proper documentation. • Monitor freight expenses and collaborate with the logistics team to enhance cost efficiency and transit performance. RMA Receiving: • Lead the RMA receiving team to ensure timely and accurate processing of returned merchandise. • Maintain strict documentation, quality control, and compliance standards.
