About the job
Tactacam designs outdoor and action cameras for hunters and adventurers, serving over a million active customers. The company emphasizes technology, design, and usability, and encourages innovation within a setting where priorities can shift quickly.
Internship Focus
This Embedded Systems Intern position supports the design and stability of Tactacam’s cellular-connected trail and security cameras. The intern will work closely with the Embedded Engineering Lead (Firmware/Systems) to develop and maintain firmware for rugged, outdoor-rated devices (IP66+ certified). Collaboration extends to both internal engineering and offshore manufacturing teams using a Joint Development Manufacturing (JDM) model. The intern helps ensure firmware quality and design integrity from early development through mass production.
Key Responsibilities
- System Architecture & Integration: Support firmware integration for cellular-connected devices using low-power wireless protocols such as Wi-Fi, BLE, and Cat 1 Bis for remote monitoring.
- Power Optimization: Validate and help improve battery life for devices intended for long-term field use.
- New Product Introduction (NPI) Validation: Assist in debugging firmware and validating systems during all NPI phases, including Engineering Validation (EVT), Design Validation (DVT), and Production Validation (PVT).
- JDM Collaboration: Work with offshore JDM firmware teams on code reviews and help maintain architectural consistency across the firmware stack.
- Defect Analysis: Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for design defects, implement corrective actions (CAPA), and distinguish between design and manufacturing issues.
- Regulatory Compliance: Help prepare technical documentation and firmware configurations for certifications including PTCRB, FCC, CE, and RoHS.
- Documentation: Maintain version-controlled firmware source code and create detailed engineering test reports.
