Requirements: Minimum of 5 years of experience in fire protection design for fire protection systems. Experience with BIM (Navisworks) is mandatory. Texas NICET Level 3 certification is preferred. Familiarity with NFPA standards 13, 14, 20, 22, and FM Global Standards is essential. Technical knowledge of Fire Sprinkler Design, including Wet, Dry, Preaction, and Deluge systems. Proficiency in AutoCAD and relevant third-party software training.

As a Fire Sprinkler Design Specialist at Firetrol, you will be responsible for creating detailed fire protection design drawings and performing calculations essential for permitting and construction across a variety of project types, including storage facilities, healthcare institutions, assembly venues, and mercantile spaces. Your expertise in AutoSprink and proficiency in Building Information Modeling (BIM) using Navisworks will be crucial to your success. The ideal candidate will hold a NICET Level 3 certification in Water-Based System Layout.

  • Work autonomously with minimal oversight from the Firetrol Protection Systems Design Manager.
  • Design fire protection systems based on architectural dimensions and structural backgrounds, proactively identifying and resolving coordination issues while communicating any outstanding matters.
  • Conduct hydraulic calculations as necessary.
  • Prepare stock listings for the fabrication shop when required.
  • Thoroughly review all design drawings before they proceed to fabrication.
  • Coordinate with the Design Manager to manage drawing schedules in alignment with operational timelines for permits and fabrication.
  • Evaluate all design documents prior to submission for permit and review by architects/engineers.
  • Participate in project meetings and site visits as needed, performing site surveys when required.
  • Document and communicate any discrepancies, unclear intents, or missing information that may impact design coordination.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with field foremen during the design process, noting any necessary adjustments made due to coordination.
  • Review submittals for size, quantity, and design to ensure compliance with engineering requirements and compatibility with equipment from various vendors.
