In addition to competitive base pay, USBP offers exceptional benefits and job security, including up to $60,000 in additional incentives (details below).

Salary and Benefits

Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents can expect an annual base salary ranging from $51,632 to $92,219, based on grade level (GL-5/GL-7). As a BPA, you'll be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and other insurance options, a generous annual and sick leave program, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, similar to a traditional ROTH 401(k).

Recruitment Incentive
Newly appointed BPAs may qualify for recruitment incentives of up to $20,000. The first $10,000 is awarded upon successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy, with the remaining $10,000 provided for accepting a prioritized location.

Retention Incentive
Newly appointed BPAs may also be eligible for up to $40,000 in retention incentives distributed over their first four years.

Duty Locations
Note: Duty assignments may include the Southwest Border and prioritized areas. USBP determines duty assignments at the time of offer based on operational needs, which may differ from candidates' preferences. Relocation may be required.

The location of your duty assignment may impact your pay rate, with locality pay for federal law enforcement being higher in certain areas. A fully trained BPA may earn up to an additional 25% of base pay per the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This position offers career advancement opportunities with a progression ladder from GL-5 to GS-12.
