Salary and Benefits Overview

The annual base salary for newly appointed Border Patrol Agents varies by grade level, with GL-5/GL-7 earning between $51,632 and $92,219 per year. Agents are eligible for a wide range of federal employment benefits, including health and dental insurance, generous annual and sick leave, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, similar to a traditional ROTH 401(k).

Incentives
Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents may qualify for up to $20,000 in recruitment incentives, with $10,000 awarded upon successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy and the remaining $10,000 for accepting a prioritized duty location. Additionally, agents can receive up to $40,000 in retention incentives within their first four years.

Duty Locations
Please note that duty assignments may include locations along the Southwest Border, and relocation may be required.
