Infrastructure Engineer
Location: Phoenix, AZ (In-Office)
Join a Visionary Team: EQL Tech has been exclusively retained by an innovative technology startup on a mission to create a transformative impact in education. As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the company's technological landscape and ensuring its operational success.
About EQL Tech
EQL Tech proudly represents a high-potential startup that has successfully secured $16 million in funding from leading venture capitalists and angel investors. The company is dedicated to developing financial solutions that empower families to access State education funds, commonly referred to as Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) or School Choice Funds.
With a staggering $900 billion US Public Education budget currently being made available to parents, who can average $7,500 per child per year, EQL Tech is at the forefront of enabling ambitious homeschooling families to craft their ideal educational journeys. This initiative is just the beginning of a broader mission to revolutionize the educational system, with the founders committed to doing it right — having even declined acquisition offers in their pursuit of excellence.
The Team You Will Collaborate With
Joining EQL Tech means becoming part of a dynamic in-office team. You will collaborate closely with:
- Founders: Engineers with experience running their own alternative school, including a former Quant from Goldman Sachs and a visionary who developed a computer vision system for a leading global smart warehousing company at just 19.
- Core Team: Work alongside exceptional talent, including a founding engineer with AI research experience at MILA and Elon Musk's SpaceX school, a Head of Risk with a background from Mercury, Stripe, and Circle, and a Payments Engineer from Microsoft and Goldman Sachs. The team also includes a former Deputy Director at Arizona's ESA department and advocates for school choice.
Your Role as Infrastructure Engineer
In this role, you will take ownership of the financial operations within Pathfinder’s infrastructure, overseeing everything from card issuing to disbursements, reconciliation, and regulatory reporting. You will collaborate directly with the co-founders to build the robust technical framework that underpins the company's mission.
Key Responsibilities:
- Designing Money Movement Flows: Create a ledgered internal state, manage transaction lifecycles, ensure idempotency, implement retries, and facilitate deterministic replay for comprehensive flow analysis.
- Establishing Reliable Reconciliation: Develop high-trust reconciliation processes that ensure daily or continuous alignment between internal ledgers, card network events, banking transactions, and provider reports, along with efficient tools for mismatch investigation.
- Minimizing Operational Risks: Construct protective measures to avert adverse states such as double-spends or duplicative transactions.
