Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least ten (10) years of relevant experience in mechanical design and/or engineering, focusing on data center infrastructure, or equivalent experience and education. Professional Engineer License (P. E.) is mandatory. Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant experience in mechanical design and/or engineering, particularly in data center infrastructure. Substantial experience in mechanical engineering for data centers or critical facilities. In-depth knowledge of HVAC, piping, and fire suppression systems design and construction. Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to cultivate and maintain strong client relationships.

AECOM is on the lookout for a Lead Mechanical Engineer specializing in Hyperscale Data Center projects to spearhead mechanical engineering efforts in our data center division. This role entails the design and oversight of mechanical systems, including HVAC, piping, and fire suppression systems, tailored for large-scale data centers.

As the Mechanical Engineer Lead, you will ensure the reliability, efficiency, and safety of our data center infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a robust mechanical engineering background with significant experience in high-density data centers.

This role offers the flexibility of a remote work arrangement, with the possibility of being based in various U. S. locations where AECOM maintains an office.

Although this position is primarily remote, occasional travel may be necessary for client meetings, project milestones, onsite collaboration, or other essential business activities. Travel will be planned in advance and kept to a minimum.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary liaison for clients, addressing their queries and concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Build and sustain robust client relationships through regular communication to align with their needs and expectations.
  • Coordinate with multiple disciplines and lead the mechanical engineering team to ensure project delivery within budget and schedule.
  • Develop comprehensive specifications for mechanical equipment such as pumps, fans, and air handling units.
  • Prepare detailed reports for both internal and external stakeholders based on project findings.
  • Ensure that discipline plans align with overall project requirements and timelines.
  • Stay updated on relevant codes and technologies pertaining to mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems in hyperscale data centers.
  • Analyze mechanical system performance for continuous improvement and recommend necessary upgrades.
  • Provide technical support during construction phases, addressing RFIs and resolving any emerging issues.
  • Conduct job site visits as needed to oversee project implementation.
