Team Overview:
The Robot Optics Team is on the lookout for passionate Optical Engineers who aspire to transform surgical environments. We are responsible for the optical engineering elements of Neuralink's surgeries, focusing on our surgical robotics, operating room equipment, and the development of custom consumables. Our primary device is a robotic system engineered to facilitate implant insertions, featuring critical subsystems such as 2D and 3D machine vision cameras, optical coherence tomography, and surgical site illuminators.
Our team manages the complete product lifecycle of all optical subsystems across various robotic models, from concept and design through production, testing, and maintenance. Additionally, we design hardware for the creation and inspection of consumables, like laser-machined needle cartridges. Given our in-house manufacturing capabilities, our core tasks include bring-up testing, designing hardware acceptance testers, and overseeing manufacturing processes.
Role and Responsibilities:
As an Optical Engineer at Neuralink, you will be instrumental in developing custom optics and imaging systems that directly integrate with our surgical robots and consumables manufacturing systems. Your work will span from sub-micron conventional imaging to laser scanning imaging and non-imaging optical power delivery. This role offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers on the Robotics Team, as well as neuroscientists and biologists across the organization. Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing and simulating optical imaging systems
- Testing, verification, and maintenance of robotic vision systems
- Developing custom laser interferometry and manufacturing systems
- Testing and validating optical consumables
- Fabricating and testing beam-scanning instruments
- Creating image acquisition and processing software
- Researching and innovating new imaging technologies for robotic surgeries
- Preparing essential documentation and SOPs for robot optics
