Minimum Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or a closely related field. A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of experience and education in historic and/or prehistoric archaeology and cultural resources management. Willingness to travel and engage in fieldwork across the Southwest as necessary. A valid U. S. Driver's license is mandatory for this role. U. S. Citizenship is required due to the nature of the work. Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or a closely related field. A minimum of 12 years of experience in historic and/or prehistoric archaeology and cultural resources management.5 years of supervisory experience in field or office settings. Experience in mentoring and developing junior and mid-level archaeologists. Qualifications meeting the Secretary of the Interior's standards for archaeology.

AECOM is seeking a highly skilled Senior Archaeologist / Project Manager for immediate full-time engagement within our esteemed Cultural Resources team. This hybrid position will be anchored in our Phoenix, AZ office.

The Senior Archaeologist will play an integral role in the Cultural Resources Program across Arizona and the Western United States, responsible for the successful execution and leadership of various project components. The selected candidate will act as a Principal Investigator, contributing to team growth through the delivery of high-quality outputs for clients, while also engaging in business development activities such as presenting at professional seminars and aiding in proposal preparation and interviews.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing projects or tasks involving small- to large-scale field operations, including survey, testing, data recovery, and monitoring, often under tight schedules.
  • Conducting archival research, technical report writing, and managing state and federal archaeological permitting, along with data collection and GIS mapping.
  • Serves as the primary author or senior reviewer as required.
  • Supervising field, office, and laboratory personnel as needed.
  • Possessing knowledge of the state and federal environmental regulatory frameworks, including the National Environmental Policy Act and the National Historic Preservation Act.
  • Managing multiple tasks while effectively communicating priorities to management.
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for clients and resource agencies throughout project lifecycles.
  • Executing client management tasks including regular status meetings and milestone check-ins.
  • Demonstrating both independence and team collaboration.
  • Exhibiting flexibility and willingness to support multiple projects, including occasional travel as required.
  • Serving as a Principal Investigator.
  • Fostering the career development of junior and mid-level archaeologists.
  • Contributing to technical strategies and cost estimates for competitive proposals.
  • Managing project-related tasks such as forecasting, tracking updates, invoicing, and scheduling.
  • Reviewing contracts for clarity on scope, fees, schedules, deliverables, and other contractual obligations.
