SpaceX is building one of the largest solar cell manufacturing facilities to support the next generation of space infrastructure for large-scale AI data centers in orbit. The Senior Equipment Reliability Engineer, Solar Cells (Starlink), will play a central role in ensuring the reliability and uptime of advanced production equipment such as vacuum deposition, chemical processing, metallization, and automation systems.
Role overview
This position focuses on identifying and reducing asset reliability risks that could disrupt factory or business operations. The engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing maintenance strategies to support SpaceX's goals for AI-enabled data centers in space. As production ramps up, maintaining over 95% uptime on critical lines will be a key objective.
What you will do
- Develop and execute strategies to minimize production losses and unpredictable asset behavior
- Reduce maintenance costs while achieving high operational uptime
- Act as the primary engineering resource during the design, construction, and installation of new or modified equipment
- Provide technical support to production and cross-functional teams to prevent and resolve operational issues on solar cell manufacturing equipment
Requirements
- Experience with reliability engineering for complex production equipment, including vacuum deposition, chemical processing, metallization, and automation systems
- Ability to develop maintenance strategies that support high-volume manufacturing and operational goals
- Strong problem-solving skills and experience supporting large-scale manufacturing operations
