Role overview
The Senior Manager of Network Engineering leads the Datacenter Networking team and reports to the Director of Network Infrastructure Engineering. This position oversees the construction, modernization, and ongoing management of DigitalOcean’s datacenter network infrastructure. The role centers on advancing network architecture and shaping the next phase of the company’s cloud platform.
Key responsibilities
- Mentor and develop team members, building a culture of inclusivity and collaboration.
- Collaborate with cross-functional groups to design networking solutions that support company growth.
- Work with senior technical and business leaders to develop multi-year strategic technology roadmaps.
- Identify and resolve obstacles that affect team efficiency and delivery.
- Partner with the team to modernize and enhance tools for managing network equipment lifecycles.
Requirements
- People-focused leadership: Support team growth by recognizing strengths, providing development opportunities, and increasing visibility for team members.
- Strategic vision: Communicate clearly with peers and leaders, foster collaboration, and help set and share organizational goals.
- Technical expertise: Background in GPU networking, IEB implementation and design, datacenter networking, network operations centers (NOC), and infrastructure lifecycle management.
- At least 10 years of progressive experience in network architecture, design, and operations at a global scale, supporting 10 or more datacenter locations.
- Familiarity with deployment software and network management tools.
