Lead the development of a quantum applications roadmap focused on fault-tolerant quantum algorithms that exert significant scientific and commercial influence by overseeing the conception, execution, and refinement of novel end-to-end quantum algorithms. Mentor other team members to achieve this objective. Conduct thorough resource analyses of quantum algorithms and perform SWOT analysis of fault-tolerant quantum computing approaches in comparison to NISQ and classical methods. Offer trusted expertise and leadership in fault-tolerant quantum computing algorithms, effectively communicating the current state-of-the-art, scaling behaviors, trade-offs, and cross-over points to stakeholders across the organization. Facilitate technical interactions among multidisciplinary teams to identify, define, and address challenging real-world problems using IonQ's trapped-ion quantum computers. Establish, develop, and promote industry-leading benchmarking and resource estimation methodologies.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Staff Scientist – Fault-Tolerant Quantum Algorithms to spearhead the technical development of groundbreaking quantum solutions that will deliver significant societal value. In this pivotal role, you will lead a cross-functional team dedicated to IonQ's mission of addressing the world’s most intricate challenges using our state-of-the-art quantum computers.

As a technical expert in fault-tolerant algorithms, you will drive the discovery of next-generation quantum applications that surpass the capabilities of conventional methods. You will be a vital contributor to our technical leadership in quantum algorithms, influencing research on innovative quantum algorithms, developing intellectual property, computational resource models, strategic roadmaps, and comprehensive workflows that could disrupt the computing landscape. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with product, engineering, marketing, sales, operations, and external partners to brainstorm novel concepts, propose complex multi-year projects, and represent IonQ at prestigious technical conferences, all in a day’s work!
