Qualifications

Minimum of 10 years of experience in building distributed systems. Proven expertise in delivering and deploying products in collaboration with cross-functional teams. Strong background in developing production-level code for a large user base, with an emphasis on robust design and stringent code quality; proficiency in C++ is essential. In-depth understanding of modern computer architecture and internals, with the ability to analyze the implications of specific design choices in systems like MongoDB. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a passion for mentoring junior engineers and fostering collaborative team environments. Strong time and project management abilities, capable of providing accurate assessments of project costs and complexity. Solid foundation in computer networking principles, coupled with a desire to further enhance these skills. Demonstrated success in the industry or through academic research in areas such as:High-performance and low-latency networking. Performance tuning and optimization. Development of high-performance distributed and concurrent systems.

About the role

Join the forefront of innovation at MongoDB as a Staff Software Engineer on our Networking & Observability team. You'll play a pivotal role in developing the backbone of our distributed database systems, focusing on enhancing communication between processes and ensuring their observability. Our team is dedicated to optimizing MongoDB's networking capabilities, enhancing resource efficiency, and implementing low-overhead observability features.

Comprising six skilled engineers based in New York City and remote locations, we operate at the core of our technology stack, significantly influencing both the performance of our open-source database and the overall efficiency of our engineering efforts. Recent projects have included proof-of-concept initiatives and performance evaluations for new networking architectures, as well as the integration of OpenTelemetry to streamline issue investigations and performance bottlenecks.
