Essential QualificationsA Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (Level 8 in the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent). Minimum of four years post-qualification experience in civil engineering project design or construction. Strong knowledge of Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) Publications and the National Highways Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB). Familiarity with the Design Manual for Urban Roads and Streets (DMURS), Traffic Signs Manual, Cycle Design Manual, and Traffic Management Guidelines Manual. Understanding of construction procurement processes. Basic knowledge of the planning application process. Experience in report preparation. Experience in implementing quality procedures and maintaining records. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). Working knowledge of BIM (Building Information Modelling). Excellent command of spoken and written English.

Transportation Design Engineer

Join Roughan & O’Donovan (ROD) as we seek to recruit a talented Design Engineer with a minimum of four years of relevant experience to become an integral part of our dedicated Transportation team.


About the Role

In this position, you will collaborate with a highly skilled, multidisciplinary team that has successfully executed transportation projects across Ireland and the UK. Your work will encompass upgraded rail lines, light railways, motorways, public transport facilities, rural roads, cycle paths, and pedestrian schemes.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to engage in the full life cycle of transport assets, from initial investigations and modeling through to construction management and maintenance of transport networks.

Essential Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (Level 8 in the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent).

  • Experience in preparing detailed reports.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

  • Working knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM).

  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
