Evaluate utility impact studies for accuracy, proposed design changes, and cost estimates. Assist project developers in assessing potential PV sites and provide interconnection cost estimates. Review interconnection drawings and application packages for compliance with relevant utility standards and regulations. Manage the technical aspects of the interconnection process for various projects. Actively engage in state and industry-level technical policy working groups to advocate for standards and policies that support New Leaf Energy’s mission. Participate in field design meetings with relevant utility companies. Conduct power systems modeling, including coordination and effective grounding studies. Provide training and mentorship to New Leaf Energy’s internal engineering team. Engage in internal process improvement initiatives.

We are currently seeking a Utility Electrical Engineer II to enhance our dynamic team. This role involves close collaboration with internal teams, including interconnection, project development, and operations, to assess potential photovoltaic (PV) sites, review proposed relaying and integration schemes, and oversee projects through acceptance testing. Externally, you will work alongside utility engineers across various service territories to design interconnection facilities and system modifications that facilitate the connection of distributed generators while ensuring the distribution system's safe and reliable operation.

This position is available at our offices in Lowell, MA; Boston, MA; Troy, NY; or Chicago, IL. We promote in-person collaboration in a hybrid work environment, where employees are expected to work in the office at least two days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) and have the flexibility to work from home or the office on other days.

The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience in power systems, coupled with a deep understanding of how distributed generation interacts with existing distribution and sub-transmission systems. You will also need to articulate and embody New Leaf Energy’s design philosophy and engineering standards.
