With five satellites in orbit and more on the way, Astranis manages a commercial contract backlog exceeding $1 billion. The company is headquartered in a 153,000 sq. ft. facility in Northern California and employs over 450 engineers and entrepreneurs.
The FPGA Intern role for Fall 2026 is a paid, hourly internship lasting approximately twelve weeks. This position is designed for students currently enrolled in a four-year university program. Interns at Astranis work on substantial projects and often contribute to hardware and software that may be launched into space. Many previous interns have moved into full-time roles after graduation. Applicants who have already completed their degree are encouraged to consider the Associate Engineer position instead.
What you will do
- Develop RTL for FPGA-based applications
- Work with different FPGAs and their toolchains
- Connect FPGAs to peripherals such as high-speed data converters, memory, and microcontrollers
- Write software to test and interface RTL in hardware setups
- Collaborate with electrical and software engineers
Requirements
- Must be a US citizen or Green Card holder (legal requirement; no exceptions)
- Currently pursuing a B. S. or M. S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- Strong interest in hardware development and hands-on design
- Experience with high-throughput system design, implementation, or testing is a plus
