Required Qualifications:High School Diploma or equivalent. Nursing students who have completed at least one clinical rotation. Certified Nursing Assistants, Certified Medical Assistants, Emergency Medical Technicians, or nursing students with one semester of clinical experience. CPR certification - Basic Life Support. Preferred Qualifications:Experience in phlebotomy. Graduation from an accredited Nursing Assistant program or completion of a Phlebotomy course.

About the role

Join our dedicated team as a Patient Care Technician in the Delnor Neurology Unit! This full-time position requires three 12-hour night shifts from 7 PM to 7:30 AM, with every other weekend (Friday and Saturday nights) and rotating holidays.

As a Patient Care Technician, you embody the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, following our Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program while adhering to all relevant policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.

You will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) to perform essential patient care activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute basic nursing care tasks as delegated by the RN, including monitoring vital signs, measuring blood glucose levels, and documenting intake and output.
  • Support patients in personal care and daily living activities such as bathing, grooming, and eating.
  • Communicate any abnormal findings or changes in patients' physical, mental, or emotional conditions to nursing staff.
  • Help maintain cleanliness and orderliness of patient rooms.
  • Exhibit flexibility, strong organizational skills, and the ability to multitask in high-pressure situations.
  • Utilize critical thinking to prioritize and efficiently complete tasks as unit and patient needs evolve.
  • Act as a liaison between patient care units and other relevant departments.
  • Answer phones, intercoms, and call lights courteously, relaying information to staff, patients, and families as needed.
  • Assist in managing unit workflow in collaboration with the charge RN and/or assistant manager as required.
  • Conduct pre-census and validate daily admission, discharge, and census lists as necessary.
