Qualifications

Required Qualifications:BS, MS, or PhD in Aeronautics Engineering or related discipline.5+ years of experience with a BS, 3+ years with an MS, or 2 years with a PhD in modeling rotorcraft, tiltrotor, or eVTOL aerodynamics using CFD. In-depth understanding of fixed-wing and rotorcraft aerodynamics. Strong theoretical foundation in fluid mechanics and CFD principles. Experience in aerodynamic design and shape optimization. Proficient in surface parametrization and aerodynamic shape optimization techniques. Skilled in modeling turbulent flows, boundary layer transitions, and unsteady aerodynamic phenomena. Experience with steady and unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations. Experience with NASA Overflow CFD software is required. Proficient in 3D surface and volume meshing, including structured overset meshes and/or unstructured tetrahedral/hexahedral meshes. Familiarity with NASA's Chimera grid tools is preferred. Proficient in 3D CAD modeling software (NX preferred). Strong programming skills in Python; experience with Fortran is a plus. Familiarity with software development best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct aerodynamic design and simulations of Archer eVTOL aircraft utilizing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
  • Perform aerodynamic shape optimizations for various components of Archer vehicles.
  • Develop and maintain high-fidelity models of the Archer eVTOL aircraft.
  • Create high-quality surfaces for the Outer Mold Line (OML) definition.
  • Correlate and validate CFD results with lower-fidelity simulations, flight test data, and wind tunnel experiments.
  • Support vehicle aerodynamic design throughout all project phases, from conceptual design to certification.
