Position Overview
The Accessioning Specialist II is an integral part of our Biological Sample Management team, responsible for accessioning samples and supporting their management throughout their lifecycle. This role primarily operates within the laboratory environment.
Working Hours: Tuesday-Saturday 10:30am-7:00pm
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Receive and accession biological samples into the Laboratory Information System utilized by Biological Sample Management (BSM).
- Identify and assess problematic samples or shipments, determining when to escalate issues to relevant departments or BSM leadership.
- Accurately enter and upload information related to samples and associated projects across multiple systems.
- Maintain comprehensive records of all transactions related to each managed sample to ensure the integrity of the Chain of Custody (COC).
- Oversee the proper storage and transfer of each physical sample throughout the sample management lifecycle.
- Manage sample disposition including disposal and return processes.
- Conduct check-in and check-out procedures for biological samples within BSM.
- Facilitate temperature-controlled sample transfers to various departments as scheduled.
- Work autonomously with a robust understanding of processes and exemplary time management skills.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors or senior BSM staff.
- Adhere to documentation processes, safety protocols, and laboratory regulations, including Good Clinical and Laboratory Practices (GCLP), College of American Pathologists (CAP), and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).
- Other tasks as assigned.
